Klay Thompson’s time with the Golden State Warriors is coming to an end. After four championships and 13 years mostly fruitful years together, all parties involved have decided to move on.

The writing has been on the wall regarding this split for weeks. It all started earlier this month, when Thompson purposely cut all ties with Stephen Curry. This of course elicited a strong reaction from Draymond Green, but that was to be expected.

In the days that followed Thompson was linked to three potential teams interested in his services.

This week the future Hall of Famer whittled his list down to two teams.

The first is the Dallas Mavericks.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, there is “strong mutual interest between Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks.” And it is easy to see why – it is a perfect fit from all angles.

Dallas just traded Tim Hardaway Jr., to the Detroit Pistons, and Thompson even in his current reduced state is a better version of Hardaway Jr. And while his 18 points per Game on 39 percent shooting from three no longer allows him to be the second-option he was in Golden State, the Mavericks don’t need him to occupy that role.

Thompson could slide in effortlessly next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving and fill out their weaknesses quite nicely.

If not the Mavericks, the second team on Thompson’s list is the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James has already made it known that he is willing to accept less money to bring Thompson to L.A.

Stein also reported that James was ‘hopeful’ his organization would be able to lure Thompson in.

The Lakers’ need for a comPetent three-point shooter is publicly known. This is a squad that shot 29.9 percent from beyond the arc in last year’s playoff series against the Denver Nuggets.

Thompson could fix that.

The question now is which of these two teams he will ultimately end up with. Who between the Mavericks and Lakers will be successful in roping in Thompson when everything is said and done? Time will tell.
