The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels square off Sunday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this Game. Here’s a LA Angels vs Houston Astros Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Houston Astros will send out Ronel Blanco for the start here and Blanco is 10-6 with a 2.99 ERA and 149 strikeouts this season. This will be Blanco’s second career start against the Angels. The Angels will start Caden Dana for the start here and Dana is 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. This will be Dana’s first career start against the Astros.
Houston Astros Recap
The Houston Astros will complete the sweep over the Angels after back-to-back 5-3 wins thanks to Saturday’s victory. With the series win, the Astros will bounce back from their series loss to the Oakland A’s from earlier in the week.
Astros Closing In On AL West Title
Jose Altuve has 177 hits and a .303 batting average with 19 home runs, 63 RBIs and 28 doubles while Yordan Alvarez also has 34 homers with 84 RBIs and 31 doubles. Altuve has the Astros’ team lead with 21 stolen bases so far this season. Jeremy Pena also has 151 hits and a .270 batting average as well as 17 stolen bases of his own this season. Alex Bregman’s added 23 homers and 67 RBIs and 28 doubles also.
Why the Houston Astros will win
- The Astros have won each of their last six games against American League opponents following a win.
- The Angels have lost each of their last four games.
- The Astros have covered the run line each of their last six road games against AL West opponents that held a losing record.
- The Angels have failed to cover the run line in each of their last four games as underdogs against AL West opponents.
Los Angeles Angels Recap
The Los Angeles Angels come into this one looking to salvage something from this series after another L at the hands of the Astros in Saturday’s matchup. The series loss for the Angels meant a third straight series loss after falling short against the Twins and Rangers in the last week and a half.
Angels Playing Out The String
Taylor Ward has 130 hits along with 26 doubles, 23 home runs and 67 RBIs while Zach Neto has 31 doubles, 21 home runs, a team-high 71 RBIs, 124 strikeouts and 29 stolen bases. Luis Rengifo also has 85 hits and 24 stolen bases while Jo Adell has 20 home runs, 62 RBIs and 15 stolen bases as well. Logan O’Hoppe has 106 hits and Neto has 126 hits as well with O’Hoppe adding 19 homers and 55 RBIs.
Why the Los Angeles Angels will win
- The Angels have won three of their last four games as underdogs against AL West opponents following a home loss.
- The Astros have lost each of their last four day games against the Angels following a win.
- The Angels have covered the run line in each of their last four day games against the Astros following a loss.
- The Astros have failed to cover the run line in each of their last four day games against the Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim following a win.
LA Angels vs Houston Astros Prediction
I’m on the Astros -1.5 here. The Angels have fought the good fight, but right now is when the Astros just flip the switch and go to another level to put themselves in prime position for a postseason run. Blanco hasn’t been a world-beater, but he’s been serviceable and I don’t know what to expect from Dana in just his third MLB start. I think the Astros bats get to him and Houston gets the win here. Give me Houston -1.5.
Chris Ruffolo's Free Pick: Houston -1.5
