Knicks vs 76ers Predictions, Picks & Odds - Game 6

Tyrese Maxey’s Game 5 heroics have given the Philadelphia 76ers the unlikeliest of lifelines in this first-round series, but they’ll be in win-or-go-home mode again tonight as they host the New York Knicks.

With their season on the line, the 76ers got 46 points from Maxey on Tuesday to hang on in overtime and trump Jalen Brunson’s 40-point barrage.

My analysis

Tyrese Maxey’s seven points inside the final 25 seconds delayed any final verdicts on the Philadelphia 76ers’ season. Those miracle shots also bailed out Joel Embiid, who had a triple-double but racked up nine turnovers and struggled through another shaky fourth quarter.

Embiid clearly isn’t 100%. That’s no secret. At times, he’s dragging his body up and down the court, but Nick Nurse has been increasingly hesitant to rest Embiid given the way Philadelphia sinks without him.

So I see another big workload tonight for Embiid and I expect him to make the most of the Game 5 let-off against a wounded New York Knicks team playing just a seven-man rotation.

The Over on Embiid’s points + rebounds prop jumps out as good value. It’s probably a stretch to expect the Game 3 version of Embiid (50 points, 68% shooting), but I’m counting on strong showing to put consecutive 7-for-19 efforts in the rearview mirror.

Free throws will be key. Embiid went 19-for-21 from the charity stripe in Game 3 but only attempted six free throws on Tuesday night.

Embiid was vocal about the heavy Knicks presence at Wells Fargo Center after Philadelphia’s Game 4 loss, and I’m wagering on the reigning MVP to give the home fans plenty to cheer about tonight.

Knicks vs 76ers same-game parlay (SGP)

The Over on the Kyle Lowry assists prop was a winner in my Game 5 SGP and I’m going back to the well here, with the line sitting at 3.5 again.

Lowry had five dimes on Tuesday after a seven-assist display in Game 4, and the 76ers are going to need another ball-handler to take some of the strain off Maxey. After only logging 26 minutes in Game 5, Lowry should at least be relatively fresh.

The Knicks have dominated on the boards in this series, lapping Philadelphia in second-chance points and cashing in on the 76ers’ lack of size behind Embiid. Josh Hart has been one of the biggest beneficiaries, and there’s every chance that he plays the full 48 minutes tonight.

Hart is averaging 12 rebounds per game in this series and he’s had 13 or more in three of the five contests. Give me the Over here.

• If you’re picking the hosts, look for Tobias Harris to be an X-factor. He finally showed up in Game 5 with 19 points, giving Nurse a third scorer to count on.
• We’ve got the lowest O/U line of the series tonight, with the total opening below 200 and inching up to 201.5.
• With Maxey, Embiid and Jalen Brunson all capable of offensive fireworks, this total feels too low. Both teams have trended towards the Over lately. It’s 8-2 in New York’s past 10 contests and 7-3 for Philadelphia in that same span.
