Jose Alvarado, born April 12, 1998, is a 26-year-old point guard represented by Ronald Shade of Octagon Basketball. During his career, he has signed two contracts worth a total of $7,350,841. He will be a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season when he is 27. Alvarado is known for his ball-handling, shooting, and aggressive, intuitive defense.

Alvarado’s basketball journey began at Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, Queens, New York City. He quickly made a name for himself, earning recognition as the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) Player of the Year in his junior year. His outstanding performances continued into his senior season, where he was honored as the TimesLedger Player of the Year. Alvarado’s talent on the court did not go unnoticed, as he was highly regarded by recruiting services, being labeled as a four and three-star recruit in the class of 2017.

Following his high school success, Alvarado spent four years at Georgia Tech University, where he excelled as a member of the Yellow Jackets basketball team. Despite not being selected in the 2021 NBA Draft, Alvarado’s perseverance and hard work during the 2021 NBA Draft Combine and Summer League paid off when he secured a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. This agreement allowed him to split his time between the Pelicans and their NBA G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron.

As soon as Alvarado received fringe off-the-bench minutes for the Pelicans, he quickly made his mark and became a valuable asset. Now renowned for his high basketball intelligence, he excels in setting up plays for his teaMMAtes. As a 6-foot point guard, Alvarado possesses a fantastic blast of speed that allows him to finish plays in traffic and transitions.

Alvarado, originally from Brooklyn, NY, represents Puerto Rico internationally due to his heritage. Recruited in 2022 by Carlos Arroyo, he helped Puerto Rico qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics by winning the 2024 FIBA Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Alvarado was named MVP, averaging 16.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.3 steals.

Jose Alvarado’s salary

Alvarado’s base salary will be $1,988,598 in the 2024-25 season, with a corresponding cap hit.

On August 18, 2021, Alvarado initially signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. Later in the same season, on March 28, 2022, the Pelicans converted his two-way contract into a four-year $6,888,212 deal with some guaranteed money, securing Alvarado until 2025.

Alvarado’s standard four-year rookie contract included team options after the second and third seasons, allowing the Pelicans to decide whether to keep him for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons. The Pelicans have already exercised their team option for the 2023/24 NBA season.
