Jesse Marsch Provides Hopeful Alistair Johnston Injury Update
Celtic’s right-back, Alistair Johnston, faced an injury scare during his international duty with Canada, leaving fans concerned ahead of Celtic’s critical fixtures. Johnston was substituted in the 25th minute of Canada’s match against the United States. However, the injury seems precautionary rather than severe, as Johnston made a proactive decision to avoid further damage.
In a reassuring update, Canada boss Jesse Marsch shared insight into Johnston’s decision to step off early, quoting the player: “Alistair said he felt a little bit of tightness in his hamstring and he felt it was smarter to step out.” Johnston has previously experienced similar tightness, and Marsch referenced his injury management from a Game in June: “If you go back to the Holland Game in June, he also did that and he knows his body. From that Game, he was able to recover and play against France a few days later, so let’s hope it’s a similar type situation.”
Marsch told sunsport: “I am hopeful that he will be okay,” which gives Celtic fans hope that the injury will not keep the defender sidelined for too long.
The Importance of Johnston’s Fitness for Celtic’s Upcoming Matches
Celtic’s next three fixtures are critical, and Johnston’s availability will be vital to their success. First up is a Scottish Premiership match against Hearts at Celtic Park, followed by our first Champions League tie against Slovan Bratislava on September 18. The third Game sees Celtic facing Falkirk in the League Cup on September 22.
Johnston has been instrumental in Celtic’s build-up play, and his absence could disrupt that form. His fitness will be particularly important for the Champions League fixture, as Celtic aims to get their European campaign off to a strong start.
While there is concern about Alistair Johnston’s hamstring, his precautionary decision to step off early may have prevented a more serious injury. Celtic will be hoping he recovers swiftly ahead of their upcoming crucial matches, with his presence needed as they juggle both domestic and European comPetitions. Fans will be eager to hear more updates in the coming days as the team prepares for this important stretch of Games.
