Is Dak Prescott injured? What is the injury?
Just yesterday, rumors were going around that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott could be dealing with a mystery injury. It started when a Sports bettor said that many people were betting on him much less because he’s “not 100%” and apparently needed an MRI.
Is Dak Prescott really injured?
We had no reason to believe that any of that was true as there was absolutely no evidence to back it up, but now it seems someone spotted Prescott walking with a boot in Cabo San Lucas. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed that he is indeed dealing with a minor injury. According to ESPN, Prescott is no longer wearing the boot.
Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins reported that Prescott suffered an ankle injury, but Rapport says it’s a minor foot sprain and nothing to be worried about. “It’s not considered anything that should affect his preparation for 2024.”
Just a few weeks ago, Prescott was working out at Tight End University, and was a full participant in all offseason workouts, so the timeline of this “minor” injury is currently unknown. The last organized workout the Cowboys held was the final mandatory minicamp practice on June 5.
Prescott suffered an ankle injury back in 2020 that saw him sit out the entire season after just five Games. In a fully Healthy season last year, Prescott had 4,516 passing yards and 36 touchdowns, taking the Cowboys to a 12-5 record and NFC East champions.
If he can stay healthy this season, the Cowboys are hoping Prescott will build on that and take them all the way to a Super Bowl.
Will a Prescott injury hurt his chances of a contract extension?
Prescott is currently in the final year of his contract and talks of an extension are going nowhere fast. As training camp gets closer, it’s possible that those negotiations could finally come to fruition.
However, could an injury impede the progress of a deal with Prescott?
It’s unlikely. Prescott was under the franchise tag in 2020 when he was injured and then signed a four-year, $160 million deal in the 2021 offseason. A minor sprain is not likely to stop the Cowboys from negotiating a contract extension with Prescott.
