The parents of a young girl who was allowed to “run wild” on an eight-hour flight have been slammed online after a video posted to social media showed nobody intervening, despite the child’s disruption to other passengers.

The video was posted to the Reddit board r/PublicFreakout this week with the caption: “Letting children run wild during an 8 hour flight”.

In it, one passenger sitting on the left side of the plane is filming a little girl, sitting in the middle of the aircraft, ostensibly with her parents.

The young child is seen standing up on a tray table, jumping up and down while holding the back of the chair of the seat in front of her.

A male passenger can be seen sitting in the seat in front of the girl, which is constantly being shaken due to the child’s jumping.

Despite the man seeming unfazed, the almost 2000 Reddit-users who took to the comments section were not.

Many commenters slammed the child’s parents for not stepping in and controlling her disruptive behaviour.

“I would NEVER allow one of my kids to disrupt someone this way. Talking a little loud is one thing. Having your toddler jumping on plane seats while holding onto another person’s (stranger’s) chair is completely WRONG. I hope that man was reimbursed in some way. The parents probably saw nothing wrong with this. UNACCEPTABLE!!!,” one user wrote.

“I would feel like a failed parent if my kids were doing this and I was just straight up allowing it,” wrote another.

“As a parent of three kids, with two of them being older than that kid, I can confidently say that’s 100 per cent the parents’ fault. If you disagree with me, I would bet a ton of money that your kids are not disciplined adequately at home,” someone else added.

Others were confused as to why the male passenger did not say anything or complain.

“Why is the guy just letting it happen? I would’ve said something,” one person said.

While the majority of the comments agreed the behaviour was unacceptable, many also offered advice on how best to deal with a passenger who was behaving badly.

“Frequent flyer here ... Usually deal with a rude passenger once or twice a year (I fly roughly four to eight flights a month depending on work). Ask politely once. Beyond that, don’t engage, call over the flight attendant. They will ask them to stop, and if they refuse they’ll usually move you to an upgraded seat if available,” one person said.

“This is the sound advice. Getting mad and being rude back means you lose the moral high ground,” another added.
