Instagram might be working on labels for posts by AI
Meta appears to be using its new AI tools based on its new Llama 2 model, on generative AI features for Instagram, including labels that allow creators to identify images “generated by Meta AI.”
According to engineer Alessandro Paluzzi's screenshots, posts created with generative AI tools will be labeled as “The creator or Meta said that this content was created or edited with AI," or “generated by Meta AI” and “content created with AI is typically labeled so that it can be easily detected.”

Meta spokesperson declined to comment on the news but the screenshots suggest that the company is working towards helping users identify content created using AI. Researchers and policymakers have already raised concerns regarding the misuse of AI for misinformation and deception. Seven AI companies including Meta, have vowed to adopt a series of AI safety measures, like watermarks for AI-generated content earlier this month.
Mark Zuckerberg has dropped several hints regarding the upcoming features. “We're also building a number of new products ourselves using Llama that will work across our services,” he has said. “You can imagine lots of ways AI could help people connect and express themselves in our apps: creative tools that make it easier and more fun to share content, agents that act as assistants, coaches, or that can help you interact with Businesses and creators, and more.”
Paluzzi also spotted other features like message summaries and new artistic tools to edit Stories.
