Inside Out 3: Renewal Status, Potential Plot, Release Date & More
With its dynamic display of human emotions inside Riley’s mind, Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out has become one of the most beloved animated film franchises to come out of Hollywood. The franchise, which is two films old, has taught young as well as adult moviegoers the importance of embracing all of their emotions.
Following the successful release of Inside Out 2, which hit theatres on 14 June 2024, director Kelsey Mann is already contemplating the future of Riley’s emotional journey. For the uninitiated, the sequel continues and showcases Riley’s growth as she navigates the challenges of high school, all the while introducing new emotions like Anxiety, Envy and Nostalgia.
In a recent interview, Mann shared that despite some ideas being left on the cutting room floor for Inside Out 2, there’s a decent fodder of concepts that can be utilised for a potential third instalment of the animated film.
On that note, here’s everything we know so far about Inside Out 3.
‘Inside Out 3’: Is it on the horizon?
Kelsey Mann, in an interview with USA Today, expressed excitement over the positive audience reception to Inside Out 2 while also hinting at the potential for a third instalment. With such a strong fan base, the director anticipates that the next movie will capture everything that has made the franchise so captivating.
“There’s something about the ‘Inside Out’ world where it’s met with open arms. Everybody’s like, ‘What age is she? I can’t wait to hear where she is in her life’. [We have] a whole stockpile of ideas. They’re too good, they’re too funny, they’re too interesting for them not to be tapped into. So I have no idea where the future will go, (but) it should continue because I think it’s something that the audience really wants.”, he shared in the interview.
Another reason that makes a sequel to Inside Out 2 likely is its impressive performance at the box office. As mentioned in a report by Forbes, the movie followed up its enormous USD 295 million opening with a second-weekend performance exceeding all expectations. As a result, it has become the highest-grossing movie of 2024 with collections of USD 725 million worldwide.
What could be the plot of ‘Inside Out 3’?
The beauty of this franchise’s concept lies in its ability to adapt to Riley’s different stages of life. Each stage brings forth new emotions and stories that can be explored in future films. For instance, Riley’s college experience could open up a whole new world of narratives, especially if she excels in hockey and earns a scholarship in Inside Out 3.
The ending of Inside Out 2 also sets the stage for Riley’s continued growth and self-discovery. As she faces the challenges of joining the Varsity hockey team, she will likely confront her anxieties while navigating relationships with old and new friends.
Do we have a release date for ‘Inside Out 3’?
As the sequel is yet to be officially greenlit, fans would need to exercise more patience before they get an update on the release date. The same is true for the trailer of Inside Out 3.
