Indian ordnance factory explosion in Jabalpur injures 15, with two in critical condition
An explosion at the Central Security Institute Ordnance Factory in Jabalpur, India, has left 15 people injured, with two in critical condition.
The blast occurred on Tuesday in the factory’s refilling section, where bombs and explosives are produced.
According to Indian media, the Kharmaria Central Security Institute Ordnance Factory in Jabalpur, which operates under the Department of Defence Production, is one of the major units responsible for producing ammunition.
The explosion, caused by a hydraulic system malfunction in the F-6 section of the factory, was so powerful that it was heard up to five kilometers away, with residents in nearby areas reporting tremors.
M.N. Haldar, Chief General Manager of Ordnance Factory Khamaria, provided further details: “A Pechora missile was being boiled out at Ordnance Factory Khamaria on Tuesday, and at around 10:45 an explosion occurred. Four people were working in that building, out of which three were injured and have been shifted to Mahakaushal Hospital."
Although local media reported two deaths, factory officials have yet to confirm any fatalities.Firefighters and ambulances arrived promptly, and rescue operations are ongoing.
Indian security forces have cordoned off the area, preventing anyone from accessing the accident site.The identities of those killed and injured have not yet been disclosed, and an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
The cause of the blast is under investigation, and authorities are working to account for all workers in the affected area.
