Marco Tilio’s Celtic career continues to hang in the balance as the young Australian winger seeks to build momentum on his current loan spell with Melbourne City. Tilio, 23, who arrived in Glasgow two summers ago in the wake of Ange Postecoglou’s departure and Brendan Rodgers’ return, hasn’t made any sort of impact at the club.

The winger came to Celtic carrying an injury, limiting his chances to get up to the fitness levels Rodgers expects of his players. Tilio’s limited playing time led him to accept a loan move back to Australia, where he’s looking to sharpen his skills and rebuild his confidence. While he was given the option of staying with Celtic for a full pre-season to settle in, the player opted for regular first-team minutes instead, making his decision to join Melbourne City for the season.

Tilio is already making the most of his time back home, completing a full 90 minutes against the Newcastle Jets, where he scored the decisive goal for Melbourne City. Speaking to the press after the Game, the 23-year-old left the door open for a potential return to Europe but made it clear he’s keeping his options open regarding a future with Celtic.

Tilio’s Celtic Future

“I just want to play consistent Games, do really well and put myself in a really good position to either return to Scotland or go on loan elsewhere in Europe,” Tilio told Yahoo Aus.

While the Australian’s ambition to return to Europe aligns with Celtic’s interest in developing their young players, his comments suggest he’s not entirely confident about a future role in Brendan Rodgers’ side. Much may depend on his performances this season, as he seeks the consistency needed to prove he belongs on the European stage.

With Celtic’s depth in attacking options, Tilio faces an uphill battle to carve out a spot in Rodgers’ squad, but a strong season in Australia could give him the leverage needed to attract interest from clubs across Europe. He’s so far out of sight, out of mind at Celtic, we can’t see any way back for him.
