Hong Kong’s Largest Swimming Event Across the Harbour Returns This November

The annual New World Harbour Race 2024 will make a splash on November 10. As one of Hong Kong’s biggest aquatic events, swimmers will vie for prizes as they make their way across the iconic Victoria Harbour.

This year’s edition will have swimmers up for a showdown from the Golden Bauhinia Square Public Pier in Wan Chai to the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui. Keep reading to find out more details about the annual swimming event.

Everything to know about New World Harbour Race 2024 in Hong Kong

Registration is now open until August 26 at hkharbourrace.com. Participants need to meet certain eligibility requirements. There will also be time trials on September, 7-8, 15, and 21 however, those with spectacular results may automatically qualify for the race.

Successful entrants will be announced on August 30 at 11 am. The time trial results will be unveiled on September 27 at 11 am and contestants will be announced on October 17 at 11 am. To make the race more meaningful, participants can also opt to incorporate charity upon registration. When paying for the entry fee, choose to donate HKD 100 to ‘Share for Good’. The funds will go to non-profit organisation partners that provide support to different members of society.

Gear up for the biggest aquatic showdown across the harbour

The event welcomes up to 4,000 swimmers and features the Racing and Leisure groups. The Racing Group includes the Open Group, where up to 100 men and women each will comPete. Also part of the Racing Group is the 11th Asian Open Water Swimming Championships which will return after 12 years. Up to three male and female representatives sent by an Asian country or region will battle it out in a five-kilometre race. The event can accommodate up to 50 men and women each.

Meanwhile, other participants can take part in the Leisure Group races, which include a one-kilometre event. There will be a new arrangement in the Leisure Group this year. The ‘Companion’ arrangement allows participants to pair up with their family members or friends and race side by side.
