Heritage Ajibola who is a student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) accidentally fell inside a soak-away pit at Bver hostel on Wednesday afternoon. She was completely dead before his body was recovered from the pit.
A student of the Linguistics and African Languages at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Heritage Ajibola, died after she fell inside a soak-away pit.
The tragic incident happened on Tuesday , February 9 at the deceased rented hotel at Bver Hostel, Maintenance, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife.
In a video obtained by Mandy News, after she fell inside the soak-away pit, it took several people minutes before her body could be recovered.
However, it was too late as she had already died before her body was recovered.
A statement by the school union is below.
“Heritage Ajibola, the Linguistics and African Languages student who accidentally fell into the soakaway this afternoon at Byer Hostel, Maintenance Hostels, is confirmed dead!
This incident is highly unfortunate. The Union mourns her. May her soul rest in peace. May God give her family, friends and course mates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
It must be noted that Heritage’s death was avoidable if the soakaway system was properly constructed and covered. It is saddening that this has happened despite the huge amounts of money paid by students for rent. The Management of the Hostel must answer for the death of Heritage. The Union is immediately demanding justice for Heritage, with a view to forestalling a possible reoccurrence of this”
