Giannis Antetokounmpo is in many people’s estimation one of the best players in the NBA.

Because of that, his opinion on present day affairs – including who the league’s best player is – carries a lot of weight.

This week, Antetokounmpo touched on an interesting topic.

Who is currently the best player in the NBA?

“I feel like the best player is the guy that wins the championship, wins it all, and is the best player on the team,” Antetokounmpo said.

“So, the best player in the NBA, I would probably say Jaylen Brown, because you cannot say you’re the best player if you’re on the team who didn’t win.

“It doesn’t matter if you got the MVP or you’re All-NBA, if you don’t make your team win, you’re not the best,” Antetokounmpo added.

“… Last year, yeah, (Nikola) Jokic was (the) No. 1 player in the world. And before that, it was Steph Curry No. 1 player in the world. And before that it was Giannis Antetokounmpo No. 1 player in the world. That’s how I see it. People don’t like that but it’s the reality of things.”

Antetokounmpo’s explanation is funny for a few reasons.

One, he is picking a rival on a team that his squad will need to go through to win the East.

Two, he is picking Brown over Jayson Tatum – which will only make their dynamic even trickier.

Finally, Antetokounmpo is saying all this begrudgingly – because you know he is frustrated with how things have been going for Milwaukee ever since they acquired Damian Lillard.

Will Antetokounmpo be able to get the Bucks back on track in 2024? Time will tell.
