Exclusive: Paul Lambert’s Brilliant Reaction to Celtic-Borussia Dortmund Draw
Paul Lambert has reacted to Celtic drawing his old team, Borussia Dortmund, in the UEFA Champions League this season.
The midfielder is a legend at both clubs. He won the Champions League with the Germans before coming to Glasgow to help the Hoops win the title in 1997/98.
The Bhoys’ tie with Dortmund is one fans have been waiting on for years.
Signal Iduna Park has one of the finest atmospheres in Europe, and the Yellow Wall is world-renowned.
The Parkhead faithful will relish yet another away-day to Germany, but Lambert hopes it is an even Game.
“I’m going over,” he exclusively told CeltsAreHere.com.
“I hope it’s 0-0 and a friendly Game; I’ll take that!”
The tie away to the Bundesliga side is perhaps Celtic’s toughest of the league phase.
Indeed, they will need to make their home matches count in their quest to qualify for the last-16 play-off stage.
Lambert thinks it will be difficult but that the new format can work to the Scottish champions’ advantage.
“I think the new format gives clubs like Celtic the chance to progress”, he said.
“The Games are hard away from home, at home they’re hard Games.
“At Celtic Park, they need to take care of it there. It’s tough Games there, but they’ve got a chance.”
Brendan Rodgers’ side kick off their Champions League campaign in a week and a half as they welcome Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava to Glasgow’s east end.
No tie in Europe’s premier club comPetition is easy, but the Celts will fancy their chances against a side who were beaten by five goals to nil in their most recent match.
Kick-off a week on Wednesday is at 8pm but before that, a tricky league match against Hearts awaits the Bhoys next Saturday.
