Etienne Vaessen speaks about his immediate future amid links to Celtic
With Celtic now prioritising their search for a new goalkeeper after Joe Hart retires on Saturday, there will be numerous links, no doubt, in the coming months.
Already this season the Parkhead club have been mentioned with the likes of Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin and Liverpool’s Caoimhin Keller.
With both of these players now looking unaffordable due to their current form for both clubs, Celtic now need to look at more realistic options this summer.
And one of those has just spoken out after being linked to Celtic back in March. [Brabants Dagblad]
Vaessen ‘tears’ as decision looms
Etienne Vaessen was on Celtic’s radar as his contract ran down this season. And whilst he was focused on keeping RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie, he shied away from any talk about his future.
With PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord also interested, the 31-year-old clearly has decent options in front of him. And here, he speaks out after leaving his current club on a free,
Vaessen said [Daily Record], “When I’m on holiday, there will be some tears.
“It was one of the toughest seasons of my career, especially mentally. I am so happy with this end result.
“Afterwards, things went crazy on the field and in the locker room. I am happy that I chose to stay for another year last summer.
“RKC will remain in the Eredivisie. That is what we all did it for. And with a new squad and many young boys.
“Now, the search starts for a new club, but I’m not working on that yet.”
Vaessen has yet to win a major honour in his career so far. Turning professional in 2016, Vaessenn has made 210 top-flight appearances in the Eredivisie with 208 of those as a starter. [World Football]
Clearly rated in his homeland, Celtic will need to wait to see if he has ambitions of playing in Scotland as he goes to enjoy a summer break.
