Elon Musk's X suspends account of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei | The Express Tribune
Social media platform X has suspended the newly launched Hebrew-language account associated with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, just one day after it was activated.
A note on the account, which appeared under the handle @Khamenei_Heb, cited the suspension for “violating X’s rules” shortly after it posted a statement warning Israel over its recent Military actions. The post read, "Zionists are making a miscalculation with respect to Iran. They don't know Iran. They still haven't been able to correctly understand the power, initiative, and determination of the Iranian people. We need to make them understand these things."
X’s community guidelines prohibit content from “violent and hateful entities,” but often make exceptions for posts from “state or governmental entities.”
Despite this exception, the platform proceeded with the suspension, leading to no immediate public response from either Khamenei’s office or representatives from X.
This suspension occurs amid heightened tensions after Israel’s recent airstrikes targeting Iran in response to a ballistic missile incident earlier in October.
Iran has long had restricted access to platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, with citizens resorting to virtual private networks (VPNs) to bypass internet controls.
Despite restrictions, Ayatollah Khamenei's office operates several accounts on X, posting messages in different languages over the years.
Previously, in February, Meta had also removed Khamenei’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram for content related to Hamas.
