Walking up the stairs, Gillespie tripped on a small step and fell on to a chair, dropping the pizza delivery all over the front veranda.
The whole ordeal was captured on the family’s front door security camera, and also showed members of the household rushing to her aid.
While the family were merely concerned for Gillespie’s wellbeing, she kept apologising for dropping their food as she struggled to get back on her feet.
“I ruined your food,” she said.
The family, who described Gillespie as “the sweetest”, decided to try and fundraise some money to support the elderly worker.
Kevin, the man who rushed to help Gillespie in the video, started a Go Fund Me page and said they wanted to help her out after the “rough fall” on their front porch in Charleston, South Carolina.
“We would like to bless her by bringing by a “tip” to help her with anything she may need,” he said.
“She is an older woman who fell and only cared about the food she dropped.
“Let’s show her some kindness and take off some of this burden that our economy is causing the older generations especially!”
After the fundraiser gained a lot of interest and raised an amazing A$390,000, Kevin, along with two of his children, decided to surprise Gillespie at the Domino’s store, as seen in a viral TikTok video.
Now, the family has shared the news that the elderly worker has finally been able to hang up her Domino’s cap and retire.
“Guys!!! Barbara put in her two-week notice at work yesterday!!! She’s officially retiring! So excited for her,” the family shared in a Facebook post.
The story touched the hearts of many, as the donations continue to flow through for Gillespie.
Many have shared their emotional responses, leaving heartfelt comments on the fundraising page.
“Enjoy your retirement Barbara! You deserve it!” one person said.
“What a beautiful story! God is smiling down on this family! Enjoy a well deserved retirement Barbara,” another added.
“I hope you are able to take time to care for yourself, so that you may continue sharing your light with the world. Your smile is infectious!” a third same
