2024 Irish Open
September 12, 2024 2:00 am EDT

This week, the DP World Tour presents Golf fans with the 2024 Irish Open. Let’s take a look at this week’s event from a Draftkings perspective.

Before I dive into my Draftkings player selections for this tournament let’s review the golf course the field will play and the key player statistics that I think are the most vital to a golfer’s success at this week’s 2024 Irish Open.

Where will the 2024 Irish Open be played?

The 2024 Irish Open will be played at the Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland. The Golf course is a par 71 that measures approximately 7,186 yards.

Vincent Norrman won the 2023 Irish Open with a cumulative four round score of 14 under par.

Will the Irish Open have a traditional cut after two rounds?

The 2024 Irish Open will have a field of 156 comPetitors to start the tournament on Thursday. This event will have a cut after the completion of the first two rounds. The top 65 Golfers and ties will make the cut.

Irish Open Key Player Statistics

  • Strokes Gained: Off the Tee
  • Strokes Gained: Approach
  • GIR (greens in regulation)
  • Strokes Gained: Tee to Green
  • Bogey Avoidance
  • Birdie or Better Percentage

I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.

Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

2024 Irish Open Draftkings Picks

Bernd Wiesberger $9,600

Bernd Wiesberger has tallied four top 22 finishes in his last five tournaments played on the DP World Tour, including a 19th place result at the 2024 Danish Golf Championship three weeks ago.

Bernd Wiesberger also checks the box for me when it comes to key player statistics. Wiesberger is currently ranked fourth in GIR (greens in regulation-72.02%), sixth in overall scoring average (69.63), second in bogey avoidance per round (2.05), fifth in par four scoring average (3.95), fourth in strokes gained tee to green (1.87), and seventh in strokes gained approach (0.92) on the DP World Tour.

Wiesberger also finished second at the 2015 Irish Open.

Jordan Smith $8,800

The talented Englishman has accumulated three top 12 finishes in his last five tournaments played on the DP World Tour, including a 12th place result at the 2024 British Masters two weeks ago.

Due to Jordan Smith’s quality 12th-place finish at the 2024 British Masters I decided to take a hard look at the relevant player statistics for the tournament to see how Smith fared relative to the field.

Upon the completion of four rounds of competitive play at the 2024 British Masters, in relation to the field, Jordan Smith ranked fifth in GIR (greens in regulation-72.2%), third in strokes gained tee to green (2.771), 13th in strokes gained approach (1.259), and ninth in strokes gained off the tee (1.054).

Since 2017, Jordan Smith has played the Irish Open seven times. In those seven events just mentioned, Smith accumulated four top 24 finishes, including a seventh-place result at the 2020 Irish Open.

Joost Luiten $7,900

Joost Luiten arrives at this week’s Irish Open on the heels of three consecutive top 23 finishes on the DP World Tour, including an impressive sixth place result at last week’s 2024 Omega European Masters.

Additionally, Joost Luiten has played well in Northern Ireland in the past. More specifically, Luiten finished 11th at the 2020 Irish Open.

Paul Waring $7,300

Paul Waring has tallied three top 25 finishes in his last four tournaments played on the DP World Tour, including a sixth-place result at the 2024 Czech Masters last month.

Additional golfers I like to play well (Draftkings price noted): Shane Lowry $10,600: Jorge Campillo $7,700: Andrew Johnston $7,700: Daniel Brown $7,000 Edoardo Molinari $6,800.
