Does Jerry West have an NBA championship ring?
Jerry West, often referred to as “The Logo” due to his silhouette being the basis for the NBA logo, is a basketball legend. He spent his entire playing career with the Los Angeles Lakers, back the then they were based in Minneapolis before moving to LA.
He was a 14-time All-Star, a scoring machine, and a tenacious defender. Despite his individual brilliance, the ultimate team achievement, the NBA championship, eluded him for much of his career.
In 1972, the Lakers finally broke through. Coached by Bill Sharman and led by West, Wilt Chamberlain, and Gail Goodrich, they defeated the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. It was a hard-fought series, but the Lakers emerged victorious in five Games. Jerry West’s performance was stellar, averaging 21.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per Game during the Finals.
Jerry West’s legacy beyond the court
Jerry West’s impact extends far beyond his playing days. As an executive, he continued to shape the NBA landscape. His tenure with the Lakers and later with the Golden State Warriors showcased his keen eye for talent and his ability to build winning teams.
He played a pivotal role in the 2011 NBA draft. The Warriors selected Klay Thompson with the 11th overall pick. Thompson went on to become one of the greatest shooters in NBA history and a key part of the Warriors’ championship runs. Although West left the Warriors before their dominant championship era (2015-2019), his impact was felt through.
Unfortunately, the legendary NBA player and influential executive, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 today June 12. This is a hard day for basketball fans and specially Laker ones. His Legacy remains beyond being called “The Logo.” His NBA championship ring is a testament to his greatness. While he may have only one ring, his legacy remains indelible.
