Divers Shocked to Find Terrifying “Alien Shark”
A fisherman operating out of a port in Russia’s northern Arctic has been fascinating his followers on social media with images of strange and wonderful creatures being pulled from the depths of the sea.
The frilled shark is considered a living fossil, due to its primitive, anguilliform (eel-like) physical features such as a dark brown color, amphistia (the articulation of the jaws with the skull), and a size of 2.0 m (6.6 feet). )–long body, which has dorsal, pelvic and anal fins located towards the tail.
One website, Moscow Times, said the images might not come as a surprise to others who fish in deep waters “but the images are perfectly monstrous for the average land lover.”
