Dimple Kapadia left earrings for Christopher Nolan | The Express Tribune
Indian actor Dimple Kapadia reviewed some of her iconic looks across the length of her filmography in an interview with Vogue India. As she looked back on her years as a renowned actor, she shared nostalgic tidbits from behind the scenes.
Cross-cultural goodness struck a highlight when she got to her role in Tenet. "So I went for a fitting, and I promptly took out my earrings and wore them. Christopher Nolan turned around and said, 'Oh, they are lovely! You can leave them behind after your shoot.' And I did," she shared with a chuckle.
Kapadia portrayed arms dealer Priya Singh in the award-winning Hollywood film. "Jeffrey Kurland was really, really kind. He took all my nonsense," she said, emphasising that the costume designer struggled with her. "Poor guy. But what a look, he created. It was absolutely beautiful. Very nice."
An older interview revealed that working on the film was no easy task for the Bobby actor. "Honestly, I was under so much pressure of my own while doing it. I was so tense that I couldn't really appreciate or enjoy what was going on. If I think about it now, it was a beautiful dream for me," she said, as per Hindustan Times.
Kapadia further mentioned that picking up the project changed her life for the better, as she had always deemed herself "a reluctant actor", who had become too comfortable with evading responsibilities. However, the introduction of Tenet in her life pushed her to do better.
The interview is a testament to the fact that her admiration for Nolan isn't a recent thing. "He made it so easy for me to get into it (the role). It was a dream world and I wish I could get that better," she said. Interestingly, however, even Kapadia had a hard time adjusting to the trajectory of the narrative when she first read the script.
"When I read the first 20 to 30 pages, I didn't know what I was reading. I'm an avid reader but I just couldn't fathom where I was. Even after finishing it, I got the gist of it but still couldn't fathom what he was trying to exactly say. So I was really looking forward to seeing how he's going to translate it all into cinema as that would be the exciting part of it," she said.
Even so, she described the director as someone who has a vision set in his mind, and once he watches it come to fruition in the performance of his actors, he is satisfied. Nolan, who is known for crafting mind-numbing complexity in his narratives, is recognised for films such as The Dark Knight and Oppenheimer.
