The Wimbledon first round resumes on Tuesday, when the defending women’s singles champion once again has the honor of starting Day 2 play on Centre Court. This time it is Marketa Vondrousova, who got the best of Ons Jabeur in last summer’s final. Also on today’s schedule are Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Iga Swiatek.

Let’s take a look at the best bets to be made on the Day 2 at the All-England Club.

Parlay: Felix Auger-Aliassime ML over Thanasi Kokkinakis and Arthur Fils ML over Dominic Stricker (+105)

Kokkinakis and Stricker are 2 guys you have to feel good about fading at the moment. Kokkinakis is 9-17 lifetime on grass and has not played since retiring from a Queen’s Club qualifying match last month. Now he has to face a very good grass-court opponent in Auger-Aliassime. Meanwhile, after retiring from a NextGen ATP Finals match last fall due to a back injury (he also lost to none other than Fils during round-robin action in that event), Stricker missed the first 5 months of this season. He has finally returned for the grass-court swing and in 3 Challenger level tournaments leading up to Wimbledon he earned a grand total of 1 win. As for Fils, Stricker’s decline — or at least his absence from the tour — has coincided with Fils’ rapid rise. Count on the 20-year-old Frenchman remaining in fine form.

Magda Linette +3.5 games over Elina Svitolina (+100)

Svitolina and Linette last faced each other at none other than Wimbledon, where Linette prevailed 3 years ago via a 6-3, 6-4 decision. She is once again the underdog, but I think the Pole has a great chance to score another outright upset. As such, getting 3.5 Games is just a bonus. Svitolina made a run to the semifinals at the All-England last year, so she has a ton of ranking points to defend. That puts a lot of pressure on her. It doesn’t help that the veteran from Ukraine played only 1 grass-court match this summer heading into London and exited Bad Homburg right away at the hands of Caroline Wozniacki. Linette likes grass (33 career wins on it compared to Svitolina’s 22), so I feel good about her chances.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo ML over Roman Safiullin (+120)

Speaking of ranking points to defend, Safiullin was a Wimbledon quarterfinalist in 2023. However, 2023 ain’t walkin’ through that door. He is a horrific 8-16 overall this year, including 0-2 on grass. Add the pressure of defending all of those ranking points into the mix and Safiullin’s slump can be expected to continue. Cerundolo has not been great, himself, in 2024; still, the Argentine has heated up following a very slow start to the season. He played especially well at the most recent major, pushing Novak Djokovic to 5 sets in the fourth round at Roland Garros. Cerundolo has put up some decent grass-court results in the past (including an Eastbourne title), so he has enticing value as the underdog in Tuesday’s first-round matchup.
