Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, producer Susan Downey, reside in a charming late 19th-century windmill folly in the Hamptons. Originally built as a playhouse and later transformed into a full-fledged residence, this unique  property reflects the couple’s warm and down-to-earth personality.

Their home, known as the Edward DeRose Windmill Cottage, is set on a generous four-acre lot within minutes of East Hampton. Built circa 1885, this historic  property was designed to look like a windmill but never functioned as one. The mansion features a 7-bedroom main house and a 2-bedroom guest house, along with a three-car garage, a potting shed, a 50-foot pool, a Tennis court, and beautifully landscaped gardens.

Despite RDJ’s status as Iron Man and his $300 million net worth, his home is neither futuristic nor eccentric. Instead, it exudes warmth and charm, with playful and unique decor that includes a Frankenstein windmill on the front lawn and various art projects by Robert.

The interior, furnished with the help of designer Joe Nahem and Fox-Nahem Associates, blends whimsy and sophistication. Highlights include a gourmet kitchen, a sunken living room with a massive wraparound wall piece by ceramic artist Peter Lane, and contemporary art throughout the house. The master bedroom features a sitting room with stunning artwork reminiscent of The Great Wave.

Robert Downey Jr.’s taste for unique homes extends beyond this windmill residence. He also owns an iNFLatable homestead, further proving he is not your average Hollywood A-lister. His homes reflect his playful spirit, Susan’s penchant for functionality and efficiency, and their combined creativity, making each  property a special retreat.
