‘Culinary Class Wars’ Is Returning for Season 2 on Netflix
We hope you’ve been keeping your blades sharp and stovetop hot, as South Korean comXhRYpMMAbdWWbWw0HCWHitive cooking Culinary Class Wars is officially coming back for season 2.
Introducing a novel premise that pits 80 local cooks, dubbed ‘Black Spoon’ contestants, with 20 celebrated Celebrity chefs from across South Korea for a chance at securing a total of 300 million won ($225,000), the show’s debut season brought in a staggering 4 million eyeballs from between September 30th to October 6th. Its instant-hit status was further cemented with Number 1 rankings in four major markets, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and the show’s native South Korea.
Culinary Class Wars is returning for Season 2
“We’re delighted to announce the production of Culinary Class Wars Season 2, driven by the incredible fan response both in Korea and around the world,” said Netflix Korea director of content, Yoo Ki-hwan, on account of the show’s renewal.
As a quick refresher for those who haven’t been caught up with the inaugural season of Culinary Class Wars, fan favourite Black Spoon chef Napolo Matfia — neé Kwong Sung-jun, was crowned the winner after eking out White Spoon Chef Edward Lee after the duo were tasked to compose a dish that both showcased an intimate look into their upbringing, in addition to exhibiting their finesse in gastronomic artistry.
Sung-jun’s winning recipe, Pistachio Lamb Ribs with Lamb Heart and Wild Mushrooms, symbolically represented putting ‘his heart on the line’ in quite a literal way. It was served alongside a vintage 1995 Barolo wine, tantamount to his birth year.
Lauded for its reimagining of the popular survival reality show format by crossing between class backgrounds among luminaries from a traditionally pedigree-driven industry, Culinary Class Wars was also noted for its decision to veer away from hackneyed production tropes common to the genre, such as attempts to stir coNFLict among contestants. Instead, only a contestant’s gastronomic expertise factors into their chances of survival in the comPetition.
You can watch Season 1 of the show now on Netflix.
