Corsets to pleated skirts: Shop the look of Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’
Swifties, class is now in session.
Taylor Swift’s famous for marking each of her musical eras with distinct shifts in her personal style — and in the months preceding Friday’s release of her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” the superstar leaned hard into her scholastic side, sartorially speaking.
“There’s definitely a ‘literary academia’ style that’s going on,” Taylor Swift Style blogger Sarah Chapelle told Page Six Style of the Grammy winner’s “TTPD”-era attire. (Chapelle’s book about the singer’s style evolution, “Taylor Swift Style: Fashion Through the Eras,” is out in October.)
“Taylor, I feel, is somebody who’s a little bit of a history nerd.”

As such, she’s been paying subtle tributes to the tortured poets before her — like Sylvia Plath, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her own distant relative, Emily Dickinson — with pleated skirts, pops of plaid, chunky loafers, corsets and dramatic white dresses, occasionally accented with a gold locket or antique timepiece.
And while we can’t all be billionaires like the songwriting savante, the key pieces of her “TTPD” uniform can be had at a wide range of price points. Below, a selection of this fan’s personal favorites, some straight from Swift’s own wardrobe.
Armitron Tilly Bracelet Set
Lorraine Schwartz a bit out of your budget? Get the look of Swift’s Grammys watch necklace with this versatile set, which can be worn worn as a duo, separately or combined as a choker. It’s under $100, but looks far more expensive.
House of CB Chicca Square Neck Corset Top
Victorian-inspired corset tops have become a cornerstone of Swift’s “TTPD”-era street style (and stadium) looks lately. She wore this exact design while grabbing dinner with Sabrina Carpenter during the pair’s Eras Tour stop in Sydney.
Sheertex Modern Diamond Sheer Rip-Resist Tights
These patterned stockings have become a staple of Swift’s recently, with the songstress wearing them for Football Games and nights out in New York alike.
When I reviewed the tights for Page Six Style, I was seriously impressed by their durability and comfort, and they’ve now on regular rotation in my own wardrobe, too. The best part? They’re currently on sale for 65% off.
Reformation Agathea Chunky Loafer
Just the thing for putting some prep in one’s step, these two-toned, lug-soled loafers were spotted on Swift during her recent lunch date with Travis Kelce in Malibu.
Tilly Sveaas Gold T-Bar Curb Link Necklace
Inspired by Sveaas’ great-great-uncle’s gold pocket watch and chain, this necklace “effortlessly spans the eras” to bring a bit of vintage flair to any outfit, as jeweler Sveaas told Page Six Style shortly after Swift was spotted wearing the heirloom-worthy piece in Sydney.
Sandy Liang Astra Skort
Swift loves the shorter version of this schoolgirl-inspired skirt-and-shorts combo so much, she owns it in two different colors. Class uniforms never looked so cool.
Halara Breezeful Pleated 2-in-1 Buckle Skirt
In search of something less splurgy? Consider the under-$40 buckled Halara miniskirt the musician wore to Coachella — an affordable mash-up of Swift’s “TTPD” and “Reputation” aesthetics.
Polo Ralph Lauren Chino Cap
Swift’s topped off several of her “Tortured Poets”-era street style looks with this classic hat, versions of which also reside in the closets of Jennifer Lawrence and Kendall Jenner.
Reformation Winston Blazer
This double-breasted plaid jacket — which Swift wore during a studio session with collaborator Jack Antonoff — looks like it was plucked from a British grandfather’s closet, making it an ideal choice for those who appreciate a bookish look.
Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrance Lipstick in Elson
In the world of Taylor Swift, you’re never fully dressed without a slick of scarlet lipstick. This particular blue-red hue is a favorite of both hers and mine; when I put it to the test for a recent story, I couldn’t get enough of its velvety feel (rare for a matte formula!) and intense color payoff. Pro tip from Swift: After applying, blot and powder for a long-lasting lip look.
Aritzia Babaton Finch Trench Coat
Nothing screams “tortured poet” quite like a trench coat, and this classic version from one of Swift’s go-to brands will see you through those April showers (and beyond) in style.
Local Eclectic Qu’hier Que Demain Heart Pendant Necklace
Ahead of dropping her most heartbreaking album yet, Swift dropped hints by wearing plenty of heart-shaped pendants and charms around town.
This one — inspired by the iconic A. Augis medallion stamped with snippets of Rosemonde Gérard’s poem symbolizing “I love you more than yesterday and less than tomorrow” — couldn’t be more perfect for this particular era.
Mansur Gavriel Classic Crossbody
This surprisingly spacious crossbody from one of Swift’s favorite accessory purveyors is just the thing for toting around those tear-stained notebook pages, fountain pens and tissues. You can even add a monogram for a personalized touch.
Free People Free-est Hailee Cardi Set
OK, sure, “Folklore” is undeniably the Swift era most synonymous with cozy, button-up sweaters. Still, the cardigan’s geek-chic energy translates perfectly to “TTPD” — and this one, from longtime Swift favorite Free People, even comes with matching knit pants ideal for when you just need to curl up in comfort for a good cry.
Everlane The Relaxed Oxford Shirt
As timeless as it is versatile, a crisp button-up in Emily Dickinson-approved white is a wardrobe essential everyone should own — especially those looking to replicate Swift’s current collegiate aesthetic. Size up to make it look like you stole it from your treacherous ex.
