With only a few new faces added so far, goalkeepers Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel, and the potential return of Paulo Bernardo, Rodgers and the Celtic management are under increasing pressure from fans eager for more signings.

Addressing the team’s transfer strategy, Rodgers confirmed his discussions with Celtic executives Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay, making clear the clear objectives they have for the transfer window.

“I had a long meeting with Michael [Nicholson] and Chris [McKay] today, we know the targets we want to bring in,” he said to Football Scotland.

“Still a long way to go in the window, our concentration is that we know what we want to do, the priority positions we want to improve.

“While the club is getting on with that, myself and the coaches were really focused on the improvements of this team, physically, tactically and technically.

“Yeah, at some point before the end of August I’d expect us to have the players we want in.”

Celtic are looking to bring in two strikers, one of which could be Adam Idah, a midfielder, and a left-sided defender. Depending on departures this could change.

Rodgers remains optimistic about the club’s transfer activities and is hopeful that by the end of the transfer window in August, Celtic will have successfully secured the desired players to retain the cup and league double and add the Preier Sports Cup to the collection, with a good run in the Champions League.
