As the summer rages on, Celtic remains on the hunt for several signings to strengthen Brendan Rodgers’ squad ahead of the new season.

Numerous positions need looking at, but perhaps some additions to the first team could come from within.

Youngsters Bosun Lawal and Matthew Anderson will be pushing for opportunities in the lineup during pre-season following successful respective loan spells.

The pair came through the academy where this summer, there has been a fair few noteworthy changes.

Indeed, Darren O’Dea is now the Professional Player Pathway Manager, but the latest appointment has flown under the radar.

After Stuart McLaren’s departure, the under-18s role at Celtic has been vacant. CeltsAreHere revealed in May that Charlie Mulgrew was interviewed for the position but he has since joined Hamilton to take their U18s.

Other candidates were mentioned, but it appears Adam Asghar has landed the role. Despite no official confirmation from the club yet, the 29-year-old announced on LinkedIn last night that he had got the job:

Asghar joins from Southampton U21s. He has previous experience with Sunderland’s academy and was assistant to Tam Courts with the Dundee United first-team.

His appointment at Celtic is exciting, and it is refreshing to see the club think outside the box with the academy and bring in a dynamic, young, and highly-rated coach.
