Candy Spelling says daughter Tori ‘really needed’ support during Dean McDermott split
Candy Spelling stepped up her support for her formerly estranged daughter, Tori Spelling, in light of her divorce from Dean McDermott.
“Well, she really needed [support],” Candy, 78, told People, adding that it meant “a lot” to be able to help her daughter while the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star relied on her.
“Everything’s good,” she shared.
Tori, 50, officially filed for divorce from the “Chopped Canada” star last month — nine months after the pair announced they had separated.
The “True Tori” star cited “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the divorce. Tori requested joint legal custody of their five minor children but asked for sole physical custody with visitation for McDermott, 57, to be determined. She also requested he pay spousal support.
Instead of telling McDermott that she filed for divorce in a private conversation, Tori called him up while recording her podcast, “Misspelling,” and allowed her listeners to hear her break the news to him.
“Oh, s–t. He’s at work right now. This sucks,” she said, though proceeded with the conversation regardless.
The actress told her estranged husband that she “hate[d] to do this to” him while he was “in the middle of going to work and everything.”

“They’ve done it. It’s the formality,” she told him. “It’s just the one sheet you check off, and next you’ll have to sign it.”
The “Due South” alum later told a paparazzo that he and Spelling are “doing good.”
Although the divorce filing didn’t mention the existence of a prenuptial agreement, Tori’s mother reportedly gave her assurances that she’d take care of her and her grandchildren financially.
“She has given Tori assurances that her and her kids would absolutely be taken care of and there should be no financial insecurity moving forward,” an insider told People of Candy, who was married to famed television producer Aaron Spelling, in July 2023.
Tori since has moved into a $15,000-per-month rental home with her kids.
