Camila Cabello reveals the inspiration behind her shocking blond hair transformation
CANNES — “Miss Movin’ On” from her brunette self.
Camila Cabello revealed which famous musicians inspired her major hair transformation earlier this year.
“Changing my physical appearance like my blond hair or fashion — whatever I do, I learned how exciting that is from people like Madonna or David Bowie,” she explained onstage during Complex’s intimate dinner at L’Ecrin Plage during Cannes Lions in France Monday night.
The Fifth Harmony alum added, “Always keep it fresh for people.”
The “Señorita” songstress, 27, acknowledged that such a severe change in her look could alienate her “day one fans,” but said she believed they’d stand by her as long as she remains authentic.
“I trust that as long as I’m being me, they know me and love me for me,” she said.
About halfway through her conversation a group of rowdy fans on the beach cheered for the pop star, but Cabello quickly became confused.
“Hello? Was that a seagull?” she asked the crowd. “I thought someone was yelling for me, or was it some kind of animal?”
Cabello performed “I Luv It,” “He Knows” and “Never Be the Same,” all of which she sang acoustically.
“Live it up in Cannes, everybody!” she shrieked before exiting the stage.
The singer first revealed her dramatic new hairstyle in February.
“it’s time >:),” she teased, unveiling her new look after years of her natural brunette color.
An insider confirmed at the time the new look was to signify a “new era” in Cabello’s musical career.
“Blonde bombshell pop star era incoming 🙌,” one fan tweeted at the time, with another writing that they were “screaming crying throwing up.”
It’s no surprise the singer took her inspiration from the “Material Girl” herself as she once physically bowed down to Madonna during the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.
During the show, Madonna presented Cabello the award for Video of the Year for “Havana.”
“My hands are literally shaking. I’m never going to forget this moment. Madonna, I love you so, so much,” Cabello said as she walked up to give her acceptance speech.
“I’ve seen every single music video of yours, I’ve seen every single documentary of yours, and you’ve inspired me so, so much. For that reason, this is a surreal moment, and I love you,” she said.
