After coming in for some undue criticism following Scotland’s 5-1 thumping at the hands of Germany last week, Callum McGregor stood out on Wednesday against Switzerland.

The Celtic captain was incredible for Steve Clarke’s side, constantly showing for the ball and alongside Billy Gilmour, running the Game in the middle of the park.

McGregor doesn’t get the recognition he deserves in a Scotland jersey because the critical work he does goes unnoticed.

He is key to the national team, and there is a valid argument that he should be wearing the captain’s armband.

This weekend, the 31-year-old and his international teaMMAtes have the opportunity to make History.

The Scots go into their final group Game a win over Hungary away from reaching the last 16 of the Euros, a position they would have undoubtedly taken pre-tournament.

Indeed, before this summer’s championships, the players were carrying out some media work.

McGregor, alongside former Celt Ryan Christie, was asked which team from a set of four had never won the Euros.

The answer was England, the man behind the camera reminding McGregor and Christie of their defeat in the final a few years ago.

“Losing finalists in 2020”, he said (TikTok), to which McGregor responded sarcastically: “Ah, that was a shame”, quipped the midfielder.

Scotland and Celtic fans breathed a huge sigh of relief when Gianluigi DonaruMMA saved Bukayo Saka’s penalty at Wembley a few summers ago.

Hearts were in mouths across the country and this time around, few would be able to handle a similar ending to the Euros.
