Scotland’s heartbreaking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hungary on Sunday evening confirmed their elimination from Euro 2024.

The national team seem to continually find new ways to fluff their lines when it matters most.

There have been many criticisms of the players and manager following the recent painstaking loss, with former Celts Chris Sutton and Shane Duffy perplexed as to why James Forrest didn’t get any minutes.

The winger, though, is now getting some deserved downtime ahead of the new season with Celtic. He, Greg Taylor, and Anthony Ralston left Germany with the Scotland team, but Callum McGregor made his own arrangements.

According to PLZ Soccer, the Hoops’ skipper, along with John McGinn, Scott McTominay, Che Adams, Tommy Conway, and Angus Gunn, left Garmisch-Partenkirchen separate from the team.

After a long and arduous season, McGregor will now get a well-deserved rest.

The 31-year-old played almost 50 times for club and country throughout 2023/24 despite experiencing a few injury issues in the campaign.

His consistency knows no bounds, but it is key that McGregor rests and recharges ahead of the new season.
