Byron Scott is one of the least memorable coaches in Los Angeles Lakers History. After coming to the organization with a ton of hype, he managed to accomplish exactly nothing between 2014 and 2016.

As a result, Scott knows a doomed-to-fail Lakers coach when he sees one.

This week, he offered his thoughts on why the current frontrunner to replace Darvin Ham, J.J. Redick, would be a dumb hire for L.A.

“JJ has no coaching experience whatsoever,” he said.

“And it’s hard jumping in that seat as a first-time head coach. I look at some of the other players who played in this league. Steve Nash is a guy that comes to mind who played in the NBA, never had any coaching experience, and it didn’t work out real well in Brooklyn for him, so it’s a tough job and it’s really even tougher for guys who’ve never had any coaching experience.”

Scott didn’t stop there, though.

“I don’t know you know why because I don’t know JJ… I know he has some respect in the league, you got respect with his podcast and things of that nature but I don’t know if he has what it takes to be a great head coach in the NBA but again if he gets that opportunity, we’ll find out real soon,” he continued.

“My advice would be get you a bunch of great assistant coaches. Because they can really alleviate a lot of the pressure and a lot of the things that you’re going to be facing as a first-time head coach. So get you some great assistant coaches.”

Will the Lakers really end up hiring Redick despite all signs pointing to the fact that they shouldn’t? An answer one way or the other will come soon enough.
