It was the perfect return to action for the Bhoys, who carried on from where they left off in pre-season.

Post-match yesterday, attention inevitably returned to Celtic’s transfer Business. Manager Brendan Rodgers provided an update, stating he wants quality brought in, but that it will take time.

The club have been criticised for their lack of activity in the market this summer, with fans becoming more frustrated as the weeks pass without any new signings.

The board have taken a considerable amount of flack, but Rodgers rejected the notion he is sending messages to the Celtic hierarchy with his comments on transfers.

He said (BBC Sport Scotland): “I see these various reports that I’m sending messages or sending codes to [the board]… I will never say anything that I’ve not spoken [about] to my bosses here at the club.

“So yeah, I’m relaying my feelings but my feelings are with them totally first.

“But we want to take the club forward, we know the challenges we have on every front and we want to improve the squad. Everyone deserves that so hopefully we can get in those players who can really help us kick on again this season.”

The closing few weeks of the transfer window will be telling.

Rodgers has made it clear he wants several additions of quality to his side, but it remains to be seen whether he will be granted his wishes throughout the remainder of summer.
