Brendan Rodgers Echoes Celtic Fans’ Thoughts About Champions League Points Tally
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is ‘so, so happy’ to have four points from his side’s opening three Champions League Games.
The Hoops Travelled to Bergamo last night and, despite a lack of fan enthusiasm heading into the match, put in a defensively solid display that kept Atalanta out for the full 90 and more.
The Serie A outfit couldn’t overcome a sturdy Celtic team, which the Italian media described as a ‘Scottish rock’.
Kasper Schmeichel was ever-present between the sticks, as Auston Trusty came up with a standout performance at centre-half.
Although the hosts continually threatened, Celtic hung in and secured a priceless point on the road, taking their league phase tally to four.
After three Games, boss Rodgers – along with much of the Parkhead faithful – is delighted with his team’s return: “If you look at our first three Games, to have four points out of that, I’m so, so happy with that,” he said (BBC).
“The first game, we were absolutely brilliant. The Dortmund game speaks for itself [but] we learned from that. We came away to a top team with big, big talents and kept a clean sheet and got a point.
“With five Games to go, hopefully, we can look to our next Game and look to gain more points to end up where we want to be in January.”
Celtic’s next opponent in the Champions League is RB Leipzig. Club Brugge will then visit Parkhead on matchday five before the Bhoys head to Dinamo Zagreb just before Christmas.
Things are rounded off with a home Game against Young Boys and a subsequent trip down to Birmingham to play Aston Villa.
Last night’s point could prove critical as the Hoops seek to earn a place in the last-16 play-offs over their next few matches.
