Alistair Johnston Humorously Makes Light of Carter-Vickers’ Error
Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston humorously reacted to Cameron Carter-Vickers’ moment of madness last night in the Hoops’ hard-fought 1-1 draw with Club Brugge.
The Bhoys went behind 26 minutes in through a calamitous error from the usually reliable Carter-Vickers.
He didn’t look up when passing the ball back to goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, and the ball trickled into the Celtic net to give the visitors a somewhat deserved lead.
Thankfully for Carter-Vickers and the Bhoys, they fought back and got themselves back into the Game in the second 45. Daizen Maeda levelled things up on the hour mark with a tremendous strike, which his old teaMMAte Joe Hart loved.
Neither side found a winner in the closing 30 minutes, and both were rather content with a point apiece.
Post-match, Hoops right back Johnston spoke to the media. Inevitably, he was quizzed about Carter-Vickers’ first-half switch-off. He made light of the situation and humorously reacted to it: “When you want to play out from the back under high pressure, sometimes things are going to get a little lost in translation,” he said (BBC).
“He (Carter-Vickers) thought Kasper was one place, he wasn’t. It ended up being a great finish!
“I think he was fine for the rest of the match. He was one of those guys you don’t need really have to worry about with that kind of stuff.”
Carter-Vickers rallied after his error and coped well throughout the remainder of the match.
Like most of his teaMMAtes, he was poor in the opening stages and failed to find his groove early on.
That culminated in the error, but the Celts rallied and showed great resilience to earn what could be a crucial point come the end of the league phase.
