Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic has praised Kasper Schmeichel’s performance after Celtic held Atalanta to a 0-0 draw in Bergamo last night.

The Serie A side dominated possession and created multiple chances throughout the match but couldn’t find a way past the Hoops’ stubborn defence.

Pasalic was quick to acknowledge the key role Schmeichel played in denying Atalanta’s attack. Despite the Italians’ best efforts, Celtic’s veteran shot-stopper kept them at bay with a string of important saves.

“We had several chances but we came up against Kasper Schmeichel and unfortunately, we couldn’t break his resistance,” Pasalic said after the match (Glasgow Times).

Schmeichel’s performance wasn’t the only standout for Celtic, with defenders Auston Trusty and Liam Scales playing vital roles in front of him.

The centre-half duo produced solid displays to frustrate Atalanta’s forwards. Together, they absorbed pressure well and limited the visitors’ opportunities to land decisive shots on goal.

Pasalic also highlighted the effectiveness of his side’s defensive effort, although they ultimately couldn’t capitalise on their dominance. “We have to accept this draw, even if it’s a bit frustrating. We defended very well, without taking any big risks,” he added.

Celtic’s resilience against a talented Atalanta side shows their growing confidence on the European stage.

Schmeichel’s coMMAnding presence between the sticks, combined with a strong defensive effort, proved crucial in earning a hard-fought point.

While the result might be frustrating for Atalanta, Pasalic’s comments reflect the challenge Celtic posed on the night, particularly through the performances of their defensive pillars.

The Bhoys can take confidence from the result heading into back-to-back European home Games against RB Leipzig and Club Brugge.
