Ashleigh Barty and Angelique Kerber meet Thursday in the semifinals of the 2021 Tennis Wimbledon.

Ashleigh Barty is coming off a straight sets win over Ajla Tomljanovic that took 16 Games to decide. In the victory, Barty won 69 percent of her first serve points and 55 percent of her second serve points. Barty won 63 percent of her total service points and converted on six of her 11 break points. Barty saved two of her four break points and hit 23 winners. Barty has won nine straight sets, but she can be better with getting her first serve in play. Barty looks to make her second career grand slam final appearance and first since the 2019 French Open. Barty is 1-1 in career grand slam semifinal matches. Barty has won five straight matches on grass court.

Angelique Kerber is coming off a straight sets win over Karolina Muchova that took 17 Games to decide. Kerber has won three of the five meetings against Barty, including the most recent match in 2019 Hopman Cup. Four of the five meetings were decided in straight sets. This will be the first meeting on grass.

You can make a strong case for either of these players and the shotmaking should be off the charts on both sides. Barty is probably going to be favored because of her ranking, but Kerber has played the better Tennis lately, which includes a title at Homburg. Kerber has won 10 straight matches on grass and she’s moving around better than she has in years. We also can’t ignore this is Kerber’s best grand slam where she’s made the final twice.

Must watch match, but I lean Kerber.
