Alistair Johnston Draws ‘Drug’ Comparison to Celtic’s European Nights
Alistair Johnston thinks Celtic Park’s European nights are like a drug you want more and more of. And it’s hard to disagree.
Fans are already chomping at the bit to get back to Parkhead tomorrow evening for the hotly anticipated fixture against Club Brugge, particularly because of how spectacular bonfire night was when RB Leipzig were in town.
The Hoops blew the Germans away, a Nicolas Kuhn brace stunning his ex-employers in a dominant 3-1 victory. Supporters and players alike are keen to experience a similar high tomorrow night.
Indeed, Johnston, who recently dealt himself in for five more years at Parkhead, recently recalled how the Leipzig triumph got him ‘hooked’ and heightened his desire for more European prosperity.
He even admitted he could, like most fans, barely sleep after slaying Marco Rose’s team: “For the Leipzig match, Celtic Park was on fire,” he said (RecordSport).
“It was unbelievable. Everyone walked out of the stadium that night just overjoyed with that. I didn’t sleep and I can’t imagine our fans really slept too much after that.
“Those poor people that had to go to work the next day, I feel for them. But again, it’s matches like that, which just get you hooked.
“It really is almost like a drug that you just want more and more of once you get a little taste of it. Now you’re just so excited for the next one to go out there and hopefully replicate it or take it even a step further and have a better performance.”
Johnston and his teaMMAtes will be hoping for another satisfying high tomorrow night, but against the Belgian champions, winning will be no easy task.
Celtic Should Approach Brugge With Confidence and Caution
Although they’ve made a terrific start to their European campaign, the Bhoys can’t afford to be complacent going into Tuesday.
Brugge have consistent pedigree at Champions League level and after four league phase matchdays, they sit on six points.
They also won 7-0 at the weekend and head into this one in fine fettle. It is up to Rodgers and Co. to burst their bubble.
