Alcaraz reveals his dietary secrets before each game
Following his win against Miomir Kecmanovic in the Round of 16 of the Australian Open, Carlos Alcaraz evaluated reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian major for the first time in his career. On a Rod Laver Arena court in which he admits to feeling increasingly “more comfortable”, the Spaniard chatted with Jim Courier and left several anecdotes and also spoke about his next rival, Alexander Zverev, whom he will face on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
The win: “Everything worked, I think that I played an almost perfect Game. He (Kecmanovic) has played several five-set matches before this one, so he probably wasn’t 100% physically. In each ball I tried to move him from side to side and I took advantage of the opportunities that fell my way in each set.”
Routine before Games: “On nights before each Game I always try to have sushi for dinner, I love it. That’s my routine. “I already have a favorite restaurant and I try to try different things in Melbourne, but sushi always works.”
Quarter-final Game against Zverev: “I think if I play at this level against Zverev I will have my chances. He has played tough, five-set matches, and I think it will be difficult for him too. At the US Open I remember that I suffered before my match and I was not 100%. I expect a difficult match against him but I do like playing against Sascha. We both bring high-intensity Tennis which is great for the fans”.
Advice from coach Ferrero: “He tells me to maintain intensity all the time, on every ball and that is something I’m working on. The words of advice from Juan Carlos are important. Could he beat me now? No, I think he could win two or three Games from me, but I doubt he could beat me.”
