Agatha All Along is an upcoming miniseries show featuring the witch Agatha Harkness. It is a spinoff series of WandaVision (2021) and focuses on the witch Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn. WandaVision, if you remember, was the first ever MCU TV series to see the light of day on Disney+. And like its parent series, Agatha All Along is also created by Jac Schaeffer. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has had mixed success in television, it must be said. Unlike movies, where they have mostly found success. Case in point: the newest MCU big screen release, Deadpool & Wolverine, is one of MCU’s highest-grossing movies.

While some MCU shows, like WandaVision, have been promising, most of them have invariably disappointed before it even ended. Some like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), though, were duds from the beginning and never really found their footing. There is only probably Loki (2021–2023) that has been an unqualified success among MCU shows. Will things change with this show? Only time will tell.

Agatha All Along‘s connection with WandaVision

We know this show is set after the events of WandaVision, so no it will not explore the origins of Agatha Harkness. So what is it about? But first, a little recap of WandaVision as it is relevant here.

In WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) was still grieving the death of Vision (Paul Bettany), her android boyfriend. Vision had died in Avengers: Infinity War (2018), when Thanos ripped off the Mind Stone off his head.

Instead of going through the several stages of grief as we do, Wanda instead decided to forget the harsh reality and crafted a make-believe pocket dimension. In the said pocket dimension which enveloped a town called Westview, Vision was not only alive but he and Wanda had two children. As it turned out, Wanda had manifested a whole new reality out of nothing using what is called chaos magic.

How was Agatha involved? Well, she was posing as Wanda’s nosy (and a little nutty) neighbour Agnes and only later revealed herself. In the finale, Wanda punished Agnes by using magic to trap her in the Agnes persona. And that is how we last saw Agatha.

So what happens in Agatha All Along? Here is the show’s plot

As per the official synopsis, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself freed by a goth teen (played by Joe Locke) but she is still powerless. The Mysterious teen wants her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road. It is not just a road but a magical gauntlet that would reward the survivors with what they are missing. With no choice but to join forces with him, Agatha and the teen form a desperate coven to face the trials.

The title “Agatha All Along” draws inspiration from the catchy song featured in WandaVision. In the song, shared below, it was revealed that Agatha Harkness had been manipulating events behind the scenes and making Wanda’s fake idyllic suburban life a little worse.

The cast and crew of Agatha All Along

Besides Kathryn Hahn and Joe Locke, the show also features Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, Debra Jo Rupp, Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza in major roles. Being part of the MCU and the universe’s interconnected nature, we expect a few cameos from actors and characters that we are already familiar with.

As already mentioned, Jac Schaeffer has created the show. Gandja Monteiro, Schaeffer and Rachel Goldberg have directed the episodes. Schaeffer, Laura Donney, Cameron Squires, Peter Cameron, Gia King, Laura Monti, Jason Rostovsky and Giovanna Sarquis have the writing credits.

When will Agatha All Along release?

The show’s release schedule is such that it will premiere with two episodes on 18 September and then will debut one episode every Wednesday until 30 October when it will air its final two episodes. It will release on Disney+ in the US and on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
