2024 Formula 1: Who are the drivers and team principal for Aston Martin F1?
With more than 50 years of experience in Formula 1, the British team is a formidable force in the world of racing. Led by a two-time champion and backed by an innovative CEO, the team that was once known as Racing Point has molded itself into one that can definitely compete.
Who are Aston Martin’s drivers & Team principal
With no significant changes to the grid ahead of the season, most teams are entering the 2024 campaign in the same way they ended it. That said, we have seen Daniel Ricciardo secure a spot with AlphaTauri after the team said goodbye to Nyck de Vries halfway through the last season. Of course, with 13 out of the 20 drivers set to see their contracts expire at the end of 2024, this could well be a make-or-break year for many of them. As for Aston Martin specifically, let’s take a closer look at the team’s two drivers.
Fernando Alonso & Lance Stroll
When Williams unveiled him to the world just before his 18th birthday, it was clear that Lance Stroll was no ordinary teenager. Indeed, not only was he still in high school, but he didn’t even have a road license. What came next was an unbelievable debut season in 2017, one which saw him setting records on his way to becoming the youngest driver in History to line up on the front row. Today, the young Canadian has found himself on a team that is owned by his father, but that doesn’t mean he’s got a free pass. Likely a name that we will be seeing for many years to come, it’s now clear that Aston Martin have a talent on their hands.
Where Fernando Alonso is concerned, the Spaniard needs no introduction with two world championships on his résumé. Indeed, it was he who brought an end to the reign of the legendary Michael Schumacher during the early 2000s. This after all is a man who was F1′s youngest polesitter, race winner, world champion, and double world champion during a period of unprecedented success with the Renault team. While he has not exactly continued in the same vein over these last few years, it would be a mistake to think that Alnoso is past it. You can plainly see that in the eight podiums that he picked up in his first season with Aston Martin. While we cannot say for certain what comes next, it’s clear that Fernando Alonso will have a say in whatever it is.
This of course brings us to the man behind it all: Aston Martin team principal, Mike Krack. It was just two years ago when Krack became Aston Martin’s lead man after the departure of Otmar Szafnauer for Alpine at the end of the season in 2021. With more than 30 years of experience in motorsport engineering, the 51-year-old has held prominent positions in F1, Sportscars, Formula 3, and the DTM. It was in fact Krack who was part of the BMW-Sauber F1 team when Robert Kubica won back in 2008. This is all to say that with Mike Krack in the fold, Aston Martin has a solid base on which they can build.
