WTA Tour Finals: When does Coco Gauff play against Qinwen Zheng? How to watch on TV and stream online
Coco Gauff has the opportunity to round off her 2024 season in spectacular fashion when she takes on China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final match of the WTA Tour Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Coco Gauff’s return to form for WTA Tour Finals
Having suffered something of dip in form in the summer, the 2023 US Open champion has been back to her best in recent weeks, winning the China Open in Beijing at the start of October and reaching the semifinals of the Wuhan Open the following week.
In Riyadh, the world No. 3 has posted impressive straight-set victories over Iga Swiatek, ranked second, and Aryna Sabalenka, currently deemed to be the world’s best female player. In her two previous appearances in the WTA Tour Finals, Gauff was eliminated in the round robin in 2022 and in the semifinals in 2023.
Zheng, meanwhile, is playing in the event for the very first time. Ranked seventh in the world, the 22-year-old is still searching for her first Grand Slam triumph but did reach the final of this year’s Australian Open, where she lost to Sabalenka. The Chinese player’s run to the final has included a thrashing of Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and wins over Elena Rybakina and Barbora Krejcikova, who won Wimbledon in 2022 and 2024 respectively.
When is Gauff vs Zheng? How can I watch the 2024 WTA Tour Finals?
The match between Gauff and Zheng is due to be played on Saturday, November 9 and will begin at 11am ET.
Fans in the United States can watch the final of the 2024 WTA Tour Finals on Tennis Channel.
How much prize money does the WTA Tour Finals winner get?
The prize money earned by the champion depends partly on their results in the round robin. Had Gauff or Zheng won all three round-robin matches, they would have been in line for the maximum payout of $5,155,000. However, as they both lost once, they will instead take home ‘only’ $4,805,000.
Gauff vs Zheng: head-to-head record
Gauff and Zheng have only ever played against each other once, with the American running out a convincing winner. The Georgia native defeated her opponent 7-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open in Rome in May this year, which should give her plenty of confidence going into Saturday’s lucrative final.
