Netflix introduced a captivating fantasy series Kaos on 29 August 2024. Created by Charlie Covell of The End of the F***ing World fame, the series is a daring and contemporary take on Greek mythology featuring the legendary Jeff Goldblum and Janet McTeer. Let’s look at why the audience feels that season 2 of Kaos is inevitable.

Although the resurgence of new seasons for fantasy shows has not performed particularly well lately—consider titles like 1899, Shadow and Bone, Lockwood & Co., and the recently cancelled Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix—viewers remain optimistic about Kaos season 2, as its season one attracted a considerable audience. While the streaming platform is yet to give a green light for Kaos 2, here’s what we know about the fantasy, dark-comedy series by Netflix.

Will there be a Kaos season 2?

The exemplary cast

Kaos boasts a talented cast, including Jeff Goldblum, Janet McTeer, Nabhaan Rizwan, Billie Piper and Killian Scott, among others. It is helmed by Georgi Banks-Davies and Runyararo Mapfumo.

As for season 2, creator Charlie Covell in a conversation with Radio Times said that he does have plans for a total of three seasons. He added, “So that’s what I have kind of in my brain. And yeah, I would, I would love to do more.” Covell also mentioned that while the main plot for future seasons is clear in their mind, they are yet to finalise scripts, relying instead on preliminary notes and ideas.

Be ready for spoilers if you haven’t watched Kaos yet.

Kaos season 1 plot

The series revolves around a looming threat to quirky and ruthless Zeus (Jeff Goldblum), who enjoys a lavish Lifestyle on Mount Olympus. The mighty yet insecure god Zeus becomes increasingly anxious about his rule when he notices a wrinkle on his forehead, which he fears might signal the end of the world. A sense of paranoia creeps in and Zeus becomes vindictive towards his followers.

With time, it’s proven that Zeus’ insecurity wasn’t entirely incorrect. His friend-turned-prisoner Prometheus (Stephen Dillane) is orchestrating a plot to bring him down with the help of three human beings — Riddy (Aurora Perrineau), Ari (Leila Farzad), and Caneus (Misia Butler). They are, however, oblivious to their role in the cosmic world but they begin to uncover their intertwined destinies and grand conspiracies involving the Greek gods. Meanwhile, Zeus’ cunning wife, Hera (Janet McTeer), his rebellious son, Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan), and his brothers, Hades (David Thewlis) and Poseidon (Cliff Curtis) plot their own schemes.

The first season concludes with a cliffhanger, setting up numerous possibilities for future storylines.
