Why will fans in the arena for the Sixers - Heat play-in game get free chicken?
While this isn’t the first time we’ve seen such a promotion run within the league - Wendy’s did the same some years ago - it will almost certainly be one of the more memorable with the nugget counter continuing to rise as Play-In Tournament action continues.
Is Chick-fil-A really giving away free nuggets to NBA fans?
Yes, they are. According to the NBA’s website, “Chick-fil-A is the Presenting Partner of an exciting, fan-engaging, in-Game trigger promotion! The day after an opposing player misses two consecutive free-throw attempts in the second half of a 76ers home Game, fans may receive Chick-fil-A Nuggets ranging from 5-count, 8-count, or 12-count through the Chick-fil-A App, at participating Greater Philadelphia area Chick-fil-A locations (no purchase necessary). ...Whether you’re cheering in-arena or at home, the offer is available to all fans in-market!”
So, how does that work? The first time a player from the opposing team misses two (2) consecutive free throws in the second half, all fans will receive a 5-count Chick-fil-A nuggets. Should that happen again in the second half all fans will then receive an 8-count Chicl-fil-A nuggets, and if said team manages to see a third player miss both free throws in the second half, all fans can look forward to a whopping 12-count Chick-fil-A nuggets. It’s worth noting that once the offer is claimed, it can be redeemed via the Chick-fil-A app within three days.
If you’re wondering what that has looked like so far, at the time of writing Chick-fil-A’s ‘nugget counter’ was at 780,928 which is to say a whole lot of nuggets and a whole lot of bricks. Indeed, now in its second year, the ‘Bricken for Chicken’ promotion has made plenty of fans very happy since its launch. Who was the first to gift nuggets with two misses, that would be Milwaukee Bucks star, Giannis Antetokounmpo. As for who was the most recent to put up two bricks in the second half at the Wells Fargo Center? That would be the Miami Heat’s Caleb Martin during his team’s NBA Play-In Tournament game against the 76ers.
