Why was the RBC Heritage suspended in the fourth round?

The RBC Heritage was suspended in the final round on Sunday, April 21, due to risk of lightning. The players were called off the course at 4.28 p.m. ET as the rain continued to lash down, with the precipitation having started around 4 p.m. Play resumed at 7 p.m.

While the rains were heavy, the PGA Tour’s representative Mark Dusbabek said the suspension was for the risk of lightning, not because of the rain itself.

All the grandstands were closed, along with concessions and services within temporary structures.

Play resumes at 8 a.m. Monday

Play resumed at 7 p.m. ET but was quickly called for the day as night fell. Play will continue on Monday at 8 am ET.

Initially the plan was to resume play at 6 p.m. ET, however with there still being a risk of lightning the PGA Tour updated that to say that play would NOT resume at 6 p.m. ET, pushing it back to 7 p.m. Once play resumed, it was soon determined that the poor light conditions would be unsafe so play was ended for the day and will resume at 8 am ET on Monday.

Leaderboard at the RBC Heritage

Scottie Scheffler, leading at 20 under, had just finished the 15th when play was ended for the day.

Four players were tied for second at 15 under at that point.
