Why isn’t Breanna Stewart playing today against the Chicago Sky? New York Liberty injury report
Breanna Stewart is not fit to play for the New York Liberty (19-4) against the Chicago Sky (9-13) in their WNBA clash. The 29-year-old has appeared on the Liberty’s injury list and has not been given the green light to come back to the court.
The injury news comes as something of a surprise, as Stewart had played in all of the Liberty’s games this season. She is the leading scorer for the Liberty this season, averaging 19.3 PPG with 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists; coming up against Angel Reese’s Sky side, who have lost two of their last three, fans were hoping for her experience to count against the out of form team.
What injury does Breanna Stewart have?
Stewart was initially listed as ‘questionable’ on the official injury list for the Liberty, which meant that while her participation in the game is unlikely, it was not completely impossible. However, as tip-off closed in, the news came out that she was indeed confirmed as ‘out’.
The injury report submitted does not go into great detail on the physical issue for the forward, with the problem being cited as a “right hamstring” injury. Head coach Sandy Brondello extolled the talent of Stewart after the previous Game, saying “Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart. I think they just anchor us, we do a really good job of protecting the rim.”
As well as Stewart, the Liberty have announced Betnijah Laney-Hamilton will remain out with a knee issue.
Chicago Sky take on top-of-the-table New York Liberty in the WNBA at 1pm ET. This game is set to be played at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
In the previous game, which took place on Thursday, was won by the Liberty, with the scoreboard lighting up at 91-76 after full-time. In that clash, Stewart scored 19 points with six assists. “We have a quick turnaround and get to see them on our home court,” said Chicago’s Isabelle Harrison, “it’s really important to have a short-term memory.”
