What appears to be a date night gone wrong has essentially caused sporting and political issues. Indeed, the now-retired Philadelphia Eagles center and his wife were out for what they hoped would be a good time but that’s not how it went.

The Mayor of Margate, New Jersey apologizes to Jason Kelce and his wife Kylie

That he did and with good reason to boot. According to reports, Michael Collins, the mayor of the shoreline town of Margate, New Jersey, stated on Wednesday after video of a resident’s confrontation with the retired Philadelphia Eagles center and his wife went viral on social media. Collins apologized in his statement and offered to personally pay for another night out for the couple.

“On behalf of the City of Margate, I’d like to formally apologize to Jason & Kylie Kelce for their experience in Margate City over the holiday weekend. As a father with young children, I know as well as anyone the importance of a date night with your wife and would like to offer a redo date night with dinner on me.”

OK, but what exactly happened with Jason & Kylie Kelce?

Where details are concerned, we don’t know a whole lot about what occurred this past weekend. What we do have is a video that captured the above-mentioned confrontation between the Kelces and a resident of the area. Obtained an showcased by the “Word to the Wise” podcast, the video appears to show Kylie and a woman, identified later as Andreé Goldberg, screaming at each other face-to-face in a parking area, while Jason can be seen standing a short distance away. “I don’t care who you are, you’ll never be allowed in this town. You’ll never be allowed in this town again,” the unidentified woman says before Kylie responds with “I can smell the alcohol on your breath, you’re embarrassing yourself.”

And where are we at now with Jason and Kylie Kelce?

Despite the tension, there appears to be some clarity. For starters, the podcast also suggested that Goldberg requested a photo with Jason and Kylie while they were in traffic and was told no, at which point she allegedly became aggressive. Conversely, a Philadelphia blogger has since claimed that the Kelces were in fact accommodating to people during the weekend as a whole, but politely declined to entertain fans during their night out. To that end, it’s understood that they sought refuge in a nearby restaurant after Goldberg became angry, something the latter has refuted in a statement that she released on Thursday.

“In a heated moment, I said things that were out of character for me and that I regret, and for that, I am sorry,” Goldberg said in her statement. “My anger, and my actions, are not who I am, and certainly not indicative of the welcoming community of Margate. As an adult and proud member of my community, I should have recognized and respected their right to privacy from the onset. I am deeply appreciative of the grace and understanding shown to me by the Kelces and wish them nothing but the best.”

The Kelces for their part have not offered any further comment on the situation, which to be fair is not hard to understand considering the amount of attention that has been paid to the family name with brother Travis - the Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end - dating Taylor Swift. Indeed, it’s been near impossible to search for anything NFL related without running into some reference to the future Hall of Famers. That said, there’s also the flip side, with both brothers being asked for their opinion on a number of topics such as Rashee Rice’s hit and run as well as the recent comments from Chiefs kicker Travis Butker which caused a whirlwind of controversy.
