Why Carnie Wilson ‘definitely’ wouldn’t use Ozempic to further 40-pound weight loss
Carnie Wilson would try anything to lose weight, but you won’t catch her using weight-loss drugs.
While speaking with Astra in the Page Six studio, the singer revealed she recently lost over 40 pounds and although she aspires to lose more, she doesn’t want to take the Ozempic route.
When asked if she would use semaglutide, the 55-year-old told us, “Possibly back in the day, yeah. Not now though. It’s not for me, definitely not.”
Wilson continued, “I know it works for some people. I was too afraid of the side effects. For me, I just — I didn’t want to take a chance.”
“And it’s funny because people are shocked,” she went on. “It’s like they don’t believe me. They’re like, ‘Oh, can anyone say Ozempic?’ And I’m like, ‘I didn’t do that.'”
Wilson further explained that weight loss has been a struggle most of her life despite undergoing two “medical interventions.”
She previously told Today that she underwent gastric bypass surgery in 1999 and a Lap-Band procedure in 2012.
“But you know, like anybody, it’s friggin’ math. Eat too many calories, your weight goes up. I could snack all day and still gain weight. I could eat this way right now, not eating sugar and gluten, and gain weight,” she told us.
So what actual weight loss method works for Wilson? She told us that “it was purely diet.”
“I mean it was, for the first three months, I was pretty strict about stuff,” she explained.
“Only eating like certain kinds of cheese, like feta and parmesan. A lot of brown rice, more vegetables, a lot of salads, I love beets. A lot of home cooking, prepping my meals, eating like that. A lot of water and little walking, but that was it. That was the combo.”
Wilson also credited her weight loss to cutting sugar and gluten from her diet. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t miss her guilty pleasure foods.
“Gluten-free bagels, you know, it’s not the same. I might have a half and cry a little bit because I miss my chewy bagels. But that’s how I did it.”
Wilson previously talked about being fat-shamed by Howard Stern when she went on his late-night “Interview” show in 1997.
“So when I walked in, the producer Gary said, ‘Step right over here and wait for Howard.’ Well, I didn’t know this, but I was stepping on a scale. And I looked up because in red, big numbers, 233 pounds showed up on this thing. I went, ‘Wait a minute?’ and I looked down and all I could think was ‘Howard, ready to shame me.’ They purposely did it,” she claimed during a 2017 episode of “The Talk.”
“I went on and he just nails me,” she continued, furthering that Stern asked her fiancé at the time, Rob Bonfiglio, why he wanted to be with her. “It’s like a joke to him, but it wasn’t to me.”
