Who is Aryna Sabalenka dating? What we know about the tennis player’s boyfriend
Aryna Sabalenka is hoping to win her third Grand Slam singles title and her second of the year in the 2024 US Open, where she will take on Jessica Pegula of the United States in the final.
The Belarusian star has become of women’s Tennis most consistent Grand Slam performers in recent years, winning back-to-back Australian Opens (2023, 2024), reaching the final of last year’s US Open, as well as the semifinals of Roland-Garros and Wimbledon (twice) since 2021.
But Sabalenka’s success on the court has, sadly, come amid tragedy off it.
Sabalenka rocked by deaths of father and ex-boyfriend
The 26-year-old’s father Sergei, a former ice hockey player, died from meningitis at the age of 43 in 2019. And in March this year, ex-boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov, another ex-ice hockey star who turned out for the Pittsburgh Penguins, committed suicide in Miami, where he had been watching Sabalenka play in the 2024 Miami Open. It was revealed after Koltsov’s death that the couple, who first got together in 2021, had already separated.
In happier news, Sabalenka has found love again with Georgios Frangulis, with whom she was first pictured in public in April 2024. Since then, he has been a regular presence in her courtside box at tournaments around the globe.
Who is Georgios Frangulis, Sabalenka’s boyfriend?
Born and raised in Brazil, Frangulis’ family hails from Thessaloniki in Greece, although he has lived in the United States since 2014, first in Miami, then in Venice Beach.
Frangulis studied to become a lawyer but didn’t take the Brazilian Bar Association exam, and has dabbled in motorSports, comPeting in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge races.
However, arguably his biggest success has been founding Oakberry, a superfood brand specialising in açaí products, in 2016. The company raised $63 million in capital in 2023 and now has more than 700 stores in more than 40 countries across the globe.
Oakberry became one of Sabalenka’s sponsors in January this year and the tennis star is one of the brand’s ambassadors, just before she won her second Australian Open.
Frangulis, who was previously married, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in August 2016 and had surgery to remove a nodule two months later, which was also only a matter of weeks before he opened his first Oakberry store in São Paulo.
Speaking to People last month, Sabalenka said of Franguils: “There was a really tough period where I was really happy to have him by my side, always cheering me up, always making sure that we are doing some fun stuff”.
Franguils will again be by Sabalenka’s side as she looks to claim her first US Open title, 12 months after she suffered disappointment in the final against home favourite Coco Gauff, who she lost to in three sets.
